“The Role of Anganwadi, Asha and Mid-Day Meal Workers in Women’s Empowerment”

On 30th April, 2023, the Congress party organized a public event at the Malaprabhara ground in Khanapur, where party leader Priyanka Gandhi addressed the public on various issues related to Anganwadi, Asha, and mid-day meal workers. Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar, a prominent Congress leader, welcomed Priyanka Gandhi and presented her with a Buddha statue made by a local artist, Mr. Pundalik Kumbhar.

The event was attended by many prominent leaders, including Satish Jarkiholi ji, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Member of Parliament, Vinayak Navalgatti ji, Vishanu Nadhan ji, Niraj Dange ji, and Qazi Nizamuddin ji. The Congress party leaders discussed various schemes related to Anganwadi, Asha, and mid-day meal workers during the event.

Anganwadi, Asha, and Mid-Day Meal workers play a crucial role in the empowerment of women in India. These workers are on the frontlines of community development, working tirelessly to improve the health and wellbeing of their communities. They provide vital services to women and children, including nutrition, healthcare, and education.

As part of her vision for women’s empowerment, Priyanka Gandhi plans to increase the honorarium of Anganwadi and Mini Anganwadi workers, Asha workers, and Mid-Day Meal workers. This is an important step in recognizing the valuable work that these workers do and providing them with the resources they need to continue their work effectively.

Anganwadi workers, in particular, are critical in providing nutrition and healthcare services to pregnant women, lactating mothers, and young children. They also provide pre-school education to children in the age group of 3-6 years. By increasing their honorarium from Rs. 11,500 to Rs. 15,000 per month, Priyanka Gandhi is ensuring that these workers are adequately compensated for their work and are motivated to continue their efforts.

Asha workers are another group of workers who play a vital role in empowering women. They are responsible for providing basic healthcare services in their communities, including maternal and child health, family planning, and immunization. By increasing their pay from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 8,000 per month, Priyanka Gandhi is recognizing the importance of their work and the need to provide them with the resources they need to continue their efforts.

Mid-Day Meal workers are responsible for providing nutritious meals to school-going children. They play a critical role in ensuring that children receive adequate nutrition, which is essential for their growth and development. By increasing their pay from Rs. 3,700 to Rs. 5,000 per month, Priyanka Gandhi is ensuring that these workers are fairly compensated for their work and can continue to provide essential services to children in their communities.

In addition to the increase in pay, Priyanka Gandhi has also announced retirement or premature death benefits for Anganwadi and Mini Anganwadi workers. This is an important step in recognizing the risks that these workers face in their line of work and providing them with a safety net for their families.

Overall, the role of Anganwadi, Asha, and Mid-Day Meal workers in women’s empowerment cannot be overstated. These workers are on the frontlines of community development, providing essential services to women and children in their communities. By recognizing the importance of their work and providing them with the resources they need, Priyanka Gandhi is taking a step in the right direction towards empowering women in India.
